The Manchester Men's Club will put on its Independence Day fireworks display July 3 at Carr Park. The event was approved during Monday's meeting of the Manchester Village Council.
According to the Men's Club, approximately 10,000 fireworks will be used during the celebration. Last year's display featured about 9,500 fireworks.
The Men's Club will shoot the fireworks from the old air strip located behind Carr Park. Washtenaw County Sheriff Sgt. Jim Anuszkiewicz said the park will be closed beginning July 2 in order for the Men's Club to set up for the display and to prevent the possibility of abandoned cars being left at the park.
The council also approved the use of Carr Park's pavilion as the beer tent for the event. This year, the tent will serve refreshments until 2 a.m.
Members of the club are encouraging area residents who are having house parties prior to or during the event to collect money in order for the Fourth of July fireworks display to grow with more fireworks and more potential events for the celebration.
