Residents throughout Manchester lined the streets waving flags and cheering as the village's annual Memorial Day parade made its way through downtown Monday.
Festivities began promptly at 1 p.m. with a solemn ceremony and dedication at the Main Street Bridge.
"During this day we must remember those who gave their lives so honorably to serve our country," VFW member Charlie Schiel said.
Following the bridge ceremony, the parade was led by the Manchester High School Marching Band, Legion members, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Mounted Unit, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Brownies down Main Street to Wurster Park. As the parade continued down Main Street, band members performed various military-themed songs as throngs of spectators looked on.
Following a brief memorial wreath laying ceremony, the parade continued to it's final destination at Oak Grove Cemetery.
At the cemetery, following a brief service where the names of Manchester's fallen soldiers were read, a lone trumpet player from MHS performed a rendition of the military TAPS, reserved for military funerals.
Immediately following the parade, the American Legion members hosted a complimentary dinner for all area veterans and their families.
