Flying Dutch hammer Vandercook Lake to extend hot streak

By Ed Patino, Staff Writer

PUBLISHED: May 17, 2007

While she continues to lead the offensive attack, Jordan Ridenour is also starting to make a name for herself in the pitcher's circle.

The freshman was dominant in both areas as the Manchester junior varsity softball team roared to a 17-6 victory over the Vandercook Lake Jayhawks in a Cascades Conference game May 7.

A recent hot streak is helping the Flying Dutch put a slow start behind them. After dropping its first six games, Manchester has won four of its past six.

"The past six games have shown great progress and achievement from the players," Manchester coach Brandy O'Connell said. "They have come together to play as a team."

Ridenour went the distance in the circle and struck out nine for the pitching win. She also went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double for the Dutch.

Michelle Walter went 3-for-5 and fell a home run short of the cycle. Chloe Miller, Caitlynne O'Dell and Megan Bossory each added a hit for Manchester.

Monday's game against Hanover-Horton and Wednesday's game against East Jackson took place after the newspaper's deadline. Check next week's edition for results of those games.

The Dutch will play three games on the road this weekend to finish the season. Manchester will play its final Cascades Conference game today when it travels to Michigan Center. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The season concludes Monday afternoon when the Dutch travel to Lenawee Christian for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the nightcap beginning approximentaly a half hour after the conclusion of the opener.

Dutch vs. Grass Lake

Ridenour and O'Dell sparked the Flying Dutch to a 7-6 victory over the Grass Lake Warriors in a Cascades Conference game May 4.

Ridenour went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Manchester, while O'Dell cranked out two hits and three RBIs. Walter finished 3-for-4 with a double for the Dutch.

Ridenour went the distance in the circle to earn the pitching win. She recorded four strikeouts.
