With the bats doing damage throughout the lineup, the Flying Dutchmen started fast and coasted to a 15-4 victory over the Adrian Madison Trojans in the consolation game of the Britton-Deerfield tournament May 10.
In their first game of the day, the Dutchmen were hurt by a slow start in a 5-4 loss to the Dundee Vikings.
Manchester (11-6, 6-0 Cascades) wasted little time in putting Madison away. The Dutchmen scored five runs in the top of the first inning, then added three more in the second for an 8-0 lead. The Trojans responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the frame, but Manchester quickly got the two runs back in the third inning.
Madison was held scoreless in the bottom of the third, and the Dutchmen pulled further away in the fourth, recording another five-run inning and building a 15-2 lead. The Trojans scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning, but added no more. The game was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.
The Dutchmen battered the Madison pitchers for 18 hits, while their defense committed one error. Leading the attack was Isaac Miller, who went 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and three runs scored. He delivered a home run early in the game and also recorded a double.
Coyle Render also went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Dutchmen, along with an RBI and two runs scored. Will Rickert was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Ben Stachnik was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Trevor Hanewald was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs and Jared Huber finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Jeff Horodezny scored two runs, while Sam Hatt and Grant Jobkar each plated a run for Manchester.
Brent Schriber earned the pitching win, allowing two runs on one hit in four innings. He struck out four and walked six. Chase Mann went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs to lead Madison.
The Dutchmen nearly overcame a five-run deficit in the first game against Dundee but fell a run short.
The Vikings jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth.
The Dutchmen fought back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, pulling to within 5-4. The big blow came from Rickert, who delivered a two-RBI double. However, the Vikings were able to escape the jam with the lead, then held Manchester scoreless in the seventh to clinch the game.
