Manchester High School had 12 of its senior athletes named to the Cascades Conference All-Academic Team for the winter 2006-07 season.

Seven honorees came from the varsity boys' basketball team, while the volleyball and competitive cheer teams placed two athletes each.

Greg Schaible, Nick Ball, David Ball, Kevin Fielder, Jake LaCross, Zach Benedict and Andrew Tindall represented the Manchester boys' basketball team on the All-Academic squad. Crystal Poertner and Amanda Pratt were named from the varsity volleyball team, while Jamie Baird and Deanna Uhr were All-Academic honorees from the competitive cheer team. Dan Lobbestael represented Manchester's wrestling team.

Schaible and Nick Ball were co-captains of the Manchester boys' basketball team. Schaible was the Flying Dutchmen's leading scorer, averaging 15.1 points per game. He was also named to the All-Cascades Conference First Team and voted the team's Most Valuable Player. Nick Ball was a key defender who also ran the offense from the point guard spot.

LaCross gave the Dutchmen a strong post presence and helped Schaible carry the offensive load. Benedict was another strong defender, while David Ball, Fielder and Tindall were key role players for the Dutchmen, who finished the season with a 9-12 record.

Poertner was a defensive standout for Manchester's volleyball team. The senior led the Flying Dutch with 140 digs on the season and was 90 percent serving. Pratt was a capable hitter and teamed with All-Conference First Team selection Julie Fielder in the front row.

As a team, the Dutch compiled a 3.54 grade point average. On the court, Manchester finished 19-21-4 and tied for third in the Cascades Conference.

Lobbestael enjoyed a record-setting year on the wrestling team. The senior went 60-2 this season and was a state runner-up at 215 pounds. He helped Manchester to district and regional championship, and its first trip to the Division 4 state semifinals.

Baird and Uhr were leaders of Manchester's competitive cheer team, as well as the classroom. Baird received an All-Conference medal for individual cheer rounds at the Cascades Conference meet. Baird and Uhr also helped the squad to a seventh-place tie at the Division 4 regional meet.
