Washtenaw County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Steve Hiller said the 33-year-old woman is set for a pretrial hearing May 29 and a jury trial June 11.
The woman was arrested Jan. 31 following a sheriff's department investigation of at least two incidents that allegedly took place in December involving her children. She was arraigned Feb. 2 on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, the woman is accused of disciplining her daughter on at least two occasions by shoving toothpaste into her rectum.
The woman told investigators she learned of the technique from a boyfriend from California whom she met over the Internet, who reportedly told her he used the method on his own children.
The woman's name and address are not being released to protect the identity of her daughter and son, who were removed from the home and placed with grandparents following the arrest.
Defense attorney Erika Julien of Ann Arbor said the case is very complex and requires a careful interpretation of the law.
"I'm not in the position to comment right now, but I would like to comment later (after the pretrial)," Julien said. "This is not your ordinary (criminal sexual conduct) case."
