CLARE A. KNICKERBOCKER

Clare A. Knickerbocker, 78, of Chelsea, died April 22, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1929 in Chelsea, the son of Maynard Laverne and Ethel (Kennedy) Knickerbocker.
Mr. Knickerbocker held many offices in the Manchester United Methodist Church, where he also designed and built the stained glass windows for the sanctuary. He was a proud Mason, holding offices of past master, past high priest Royal Arch, past patron of OES and past associate Bethel Guardian of Job's Daughters.
Mr. Knickerbocker worked at Chelsea Chrysler Proving Grounds for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952.
He married Beverly Tilford in Detroit, on May 8, 1954, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2001. Survivors include daughters Deborah Knickerbocker of Arlington, Va.; Pamela Knickerbocker of South Lyon; Sandra (Martin) Haas of Dexter; and Lisa (Kevin) Jarema of Milan; brothers David H. (Carole) and Alfred B. (Deanna) both of California; sister Dorothy A. Collins of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Joshua Clare and Katherine Lyn Jarema; special family friend, Linda McCrea; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Harvey, George, Ray and Stanley.
Funeral services were held April 26 at the Manchester United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the United Methodist Church of Manchester for care and maintenance of the stained glass windows.
MARGARET ANNA EKIN
Freedom Township
Margaret Anna Ekin, 91, of Manchester died April 23, 2008 at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born on March 12, 1917 in Freedom Township, the daughter of Lambert and Alma (Altenbernt) Uphaus.
She married John Arthur Ekin on Feb. 27, 1937 and he preceded her in death. Ms. Ekin was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons: Gerald of Bradenton, Fla.; Jack (Jan) of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Leonard Uphaus and Ray Uphaus; and sister Ruby VanSickle. Her husband, brother Allan Uphaus, daughter-in-law Sally, and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law preceded her in death.
Memorial donations may be given to Arbor Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel where family received friends. A healing farewell service was held at the funeral home on April 27 with Pastor Pete Harris officiating. Interment followed at Norvell Township Cemetery.

ANNA E. BAUER
Manchester
Anna E. Bauer, 93, died peacefully at her home in Jackson on April 27, 2008. Her niece, with whom she lived, Sister M. Annrita Bauer, RSM, and another niece, Theresa (John) Trudell were at her side.
Ms. Bauer was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna (Rosalia) Bauer. Her mother was the Catholic Mother of the Year in 1950.
Her seven brothers: Alphonsus, Rev. Lawrence, Rev. Edwin, Brother Christopher, Brother Protase, all from Holy Cross of Notre Dame, Ind.; John and Joseph, preceded her in death. Her six sisters: Mary Conley Wolf, Sr. M. Joseph, Sr. M. Philomena, Sr. M. Rita, Sr. M. Bernard and Sr. M. Augustine, all who were Sisters of Mercy, also proceeded her in death.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Cathrine (Katie) Bauer and Olivia Bauer; many nieces and nephews, and many grand, great- grand, and great-great-grand nieces and nephews. She was the priest housekeeper in Manchester, Wyandotte and Grosse Ill for 42 years.
Ms. Bauer spent her last years making thousands of rosaries for the missions. She volunteered at Wyandotte General Hospital, totaling over 4,000 hours. She was an avid card player and enjoyed bowling. She baked pumpkin rolls and hundreds of cookies for church functions and shared them with family, friends and neighbors. She was always doing things for the missions.
A visitation was held April 29 at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel. A visitation will also be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester with Rev. Fr. Timothy Krzyzaniak officiating.
