Taking advantage of its opportunities, the Vandercook Lake Jayhawks pulled away for a 10-3 victory over the Flying Dutch in last Friday's Cascades Conference game.
The Jayhawks plated their 10 runs on eight hits to keep the Dutch winless. Manchester (0-5) managed six hits in the game, with Michelle Walter, Caitlynne O'Dell, Logan Caszatt, Claire Simpson, Chloe Miller and Lacey Brewington each collecting a single.
Jordan Ridenour was charged with the pitching loss for Manchester. The freshman went the distance in the circle and finished with six strikeouts.
Yesterday's game against Addison took place after press deadline. The Dutch are scheduled to face Hanover-Horton on the road Friday.
Dutch vs. Grass Lake
The Flying Dutch opened Cascades Conference play on a low note with a 13-3 loss to host Grass Lake April 18.
Katy Uphaus had a hit and RBI for Manchester, while Simpson and O'Dell each added an RBI. Caszatt recorded a hit for the Dutch.
The game was stopped after the fifth inning as a result of the mercy rule.
Uphaus started the game in the circle and took the pitching loss, lasting 2 1/2 innings. Ridenour threw the final 2 1/2 innings in relief.
Dutch vs. Onsted
Manchester was unable to build momentum for conference play, as it fell 14-3 to the Onsted Wildcats in a non-conference game April 16.
Megan Bossory, Uphaus and Ridenour provided some bright spots for the Dutch. Each recorded RBI singles to lead the team. Caszatt, Simpson and Walter each added a hit for Manchester.
Uphaus was charged with the pitching loss despite striking out six in five innings.
