Sixth inning dooms Manchester JV baseball
Dutch win wild 27-26 thriller over Onsted April 16

A sixth inning collapse led to the first loss of the season for the Manchester junior varsity baseball team.

The Vandercook Lake Jayhawks used an offensive explosion in the sixth and roared to a 24-5 victory over the Flying Dutchmen (3-1) in a Cascades Conference game.
A close game turned lopsided as Vandercook Lake plated 17 runs in the top of the sixth.
"We've played pretty good, but we fell apart Friday," Manchester coach Jeff Punches said. "The sixth inning was embarrassing. We committed many physical and mental errors."
Dakota LaDoucer was a bright spot for Manchester, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Logan Zigila went 2-for-4, while Coyle Render finished 1-for-2 for the Dutchmen.
Trevor Hanewald was charged with the pitching loss, striking out four in four innings of work.
Wednesday's home game against Addison took place after press deadline. The Flying Dutchmen will travel to Hanover-Horton for a single game Friday.
Dutchmen at Grass Lake
The Flying Dutchmen showcased their offensive depth, and a strong performance on the mound by Coyle Render sparked a 9-4 victory over the Grass Lake Warriors in a Cascades Conference game April 18.
Zigila and Josh Caswell each went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs to lead Manchester. Evan Bortmas was 2-fof-4 with two RBIs, while Hanewald finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Caswall also recorded two stolen bases for the Dutchmen.
Render scored the pitching win, going six innings and recording 10 strikeouts.
Dutchmen vs. Onsted
There was no shortage of offensive fireworks as the Flying Dutchmen fought their way to a 27-26 victory over the Onsted Wildcats in a non-conference game April 16.
Hanewald led Man-chester's attack, going 5-for-6 at the plate with four RBIs. Zigila went 3-for-6 with five RBIs, while Caswell finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jeff Horodeczny was 2-for-3 with a triple for the Dutchmen.
Bortmas recorded a hit and RBI, while Jimmy Hamilton finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Brent Schriber also went 2-fof-4 and stole two bases, and Clayton Every was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Manchester.
Hanewald recorded the win on the mound, striking out four in 2 1/3 innings.
