The Flying Dutch took home 10 medals at the Mansfield Mehock Relays last weekend in Mansfield, Ohio.
The team sent six boys and five girls to the event. Both squads and individual athletes received the 2 3/4-inch diameter medals for their finishes.
"We had a great time this weekend," Manchester coach Mike Forner said. "The athletes gained a tremendous amount of knowledge to help them compete in the important meets yet to come this season."
For the girls' team, freshman Elizabeth Timoszyk earned an individual medal by placing fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:21.03. She also helped Manchester's distance medley relay team to a third-place finish and another medal.
Brooke Fuller, Tracey Schaible and Katie McDowell joined Timoszyk on the medley relay team.
James Hughes led the way for the Manchester boys, setting a new school record in the 3,200 run with a time of 9:47.12. The mark gave Hughes a medal for the event with a fourth-place finish. He also sparked the boys' distance medley relay team to third place in the event and a medal. Members of the medley relay team included Andrew Tindall, Greg Schaible and Zack Greca.
Schaible posted a time of 51.1 seconds in the 400-meter dash, but didn't place. Greca advanced out of the preliminary round of the 200 dash, but fell short of qualifying for the 10-man finals.
Laura Coltre and Brian Fargher represented the Flying Dutch in the long jump.
This season marked the 75th year of the Mehock Relays. The event hosts track teams and individuals from many states and Canada. Some of the athletes who've competed in the meet include Jesse Owens (Cleveland East Tech), who won four gold medals in the 1936 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, former University of Michigan running back Tyrone Wheatley (Dearborn Heights) and Clinton Davis (Munhall, PA/Steel Valley).
