The council approved the Manchester American Legion's bid Monday to hold a Memorial Day parade on Main Street.
The event is scheduled to take place from 1:15 to 2 p.m. May 28. The parade route begins at the Main Street bridge in downtown Manchester and will proceed west toward Oak Grove Cemetery.
The American Legion also received approval to have mounted horses in the parade. The horses are provided by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.
Main Street will be closed to traffic from 12:30 to 2 p.m. May 28. The downtown area will be shut down from M-52 to Adrian Street beginning at 12:30 p.m. That area will be closed to traffic up until the start of the parade.
Periodical closures will then take place along Main Street until the parade ends at Oak Grove Cemetary.
Manchester's American Legion Emil Jacob Post 117 sponsors the annual holiday parade.
The Memorial Day parade will take place exactly one month after Manchester Area Youth Sports holds its Little League opening day parade in Manchester April 28. That parade will begin on Adrian Street at the American Legion parking lot. It will proceed north on Adrian, turn left on Main Street, then right on Clinton Street. The parade will end at the west entrance of Kirk Park.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department also approved road closures of the entire Youth Sports parade route, along with Territorial Street between Clinton and Adrian streets.
The Village Council approved the Manchester Area Youth Sports Little League parade at its March meeting.
