The award is presented by the Cascades Conference to the school district that has demonstrated the highest level of sportsmanship during the winter sports season. The award is presented three times during the school year -- in the fall, winter and spring sports seasons.
Addison was selected as the school district demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship by the member schools of the conference. The official presentation of the Burdette Andrews Sportsmanship Award will take place May 22 during the Cascades Conference track meet.
The 2006-07 winter season saw Addison claim its third straight Division 4 team state championship in wrestling, finish tied for third in volleyball and placed eighth in boys' basketball. Ciera Stevick, Stephanie Shaw and Ashley Nieto were All-Cascades First Team selections in volleyball, while Kara Cripe was All-Conference honorable mention. Josh DeBruler was All-Conference honorable mention in boys' basketball for Addison.
In making the selection for the award, each school district evaluated the sportsmanship displayed by the opposing Cascades schools. Included in the evaluation were the conduct of the student body, the student athletes, the coaching staffs and the community spectators.
Addison also had three coaches receive the Cas-cades Conference Coaches Sportsmanship Award. Ryan Shaw (boys' basketball), Rick Sherry (wrestling) and Dick Bradstreet (volleyball) received the award for Addison. Napoleon's Debbie Baxter received the award for competitive cheer.
The member schools of the Cascades Conference include Addison, Manchester, East Jackson, Hanover-Horton, Grass Lake, Michigan Center, Napoleon and Vandercook Lake.
