Chamber community expo highlights 'best of' village

Downtown showcase features local groups, businesses' services

The Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Community Business Expo from 3 to 7:30 p.m. June 5.

The event will be held a long Adrian Street and will run concurrently with the Manchester Farmer's Market.

"The focus of this event is to showcase to the general Manchester community both our village and home-based businesses and service organizations," Chamber president Ray Berg said. "Each business and service organization is asked to demonstrate what it offers to the community."

Berg said individual spaces will be available for exhibitors to rent during the event. Participants will also be allowed to set up their own table, canopy or tent and chairs within the allotted area, he said.

"This is an excellent opportunity for our home-based businesses to promote their products or services in a central location," Berg said. "Our village businesses will also benefit from the traffic, and by keeping the Expo outdoors in the central downtown area."

Though last year's event was poorly attended, Berg said the Chamber expects greater community response this year.

"Last year we were trying to get the management and employees from our larger industries to come and see what Manchester was all about. Though we didn't have the turnout we would have liked, it turned out to be a good networking tool for businesses in Manchester," he said. "This year we are appealing to the general community and we plan to make it more of an afternoon party with much more broader exposure."

Berg said planning for the event has been well organized and Chamber members continue to seek public participation.

"We have already formed activity committees for advertising and publicity, vendor recruitment, site logistics and planning, and entertainment and activities," he said. "Additional volunteers are still needed to help make this event a success."

Businesses and non-profit groups who would like to participate in the Expo, are encouraged to contact the Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce at 1-734-476-4565. Exhibitor fees include $15 for Chamber members, $25 for non-Chamber members and $10 for local non-profit groups.

"We encourage all residents to come out and see in one place what the town has to offer and enjoy the return of warm weather," Berg said.
