Despite 8 inches of snow that blanketed Manchester Village and most of the surrounding townships, local families turned out in droves for the Manchester Men's Club Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday.

Though the snow prevented Men's Club members from hiding some 214 dozen colored eggs throughout Carr Park, area children stood in line and eagerly had their Easter Baskets loaded to the brim with the delectable goodies.
"We just gave them away to whoever showed up," Men's Club member Jack Summers said. "The families were still in pretty good spirits; that's the main thing."
Summers said snowfall around Easter is nothing new for the club.
"In the past, we've had 1 or 2 inches and we were still able to have the Easter Egg Hunt," he said. "This year it was just too much."
Due to the inclement weather, Summers said the club saw a 20 percent drop in turnout than previous years.
"It wasn't bad," he said. "Everyone was quite pleased we had the crowd that we did."
Local meteorologists in Ann Arbor said the weekend weather caps a winter season that has brought more snow to the area than in recent years.
"If this winter continues the way it's been going, we could be in store for more snow," Dennis Kahlbaum, a University of Michigan weather observer, said. "Normally in March, we get about 8.3 inches of snow. So far in March, with more than a week to go, we've seen 16.7 inches of fluffy precipitation."
So far this season, the Ann Arbor area has been hit with 76.9 inches of snow, Kahlbaum said. That compares to an area average of 52.9 inches over an entire season.
Summers said while less snowfall was reported north of Manchester, areas south of the state including Toledo, Ohio -- reported nearly 12 inches.
According to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, no major traffic accidents were reported around Manchester during the weekend due to poor road conditions.
