Grant Howard, the owner of the Wallace Road home, said his family is grateful for the support they have received from friends and neighbors.
"The community has been fantastic. We've had a lot of phone calls and people have been bringing food by," he said. "We're very thankful to them, and we're very blessed that no one got hurt."
Howard said the blaze destroyed many irreplaceable personal items in the portion of the two-car, attached garage that had been converted into office space.
"We lost videos of our wedding and from the first months with our new daughter," he said.
Howard said smoke alarms went off while the family was having dinner, and he and his wife, their children, ages 11, 9 and 5 months, and their two dogs and a cat got out of the house safely before he called 9-1-1 at about 7:43 p.m.
He said fire investigators initially indicated that the cause of the fire may have been electrical in nature.
Damage was estimated at approximately $12,000, but Howard is well aware that it could have been much worse.
