"Rebuilding Together" is the work of many hands and hearts repairing the homes of Manchester neighbors to a place where they can live in safety and comfort.
Formally known as Christmas in April, the annual one-day blitz utilizes services from area residents and businesses to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low-income, elderly and handicapped residents. This year's event will take place April 26.
Since 1992, efforts by CRC volunteers and community members have helped more than 40 Manchester families by constructing wheelchair ramps, repairing heating or plumbing, or providing a fresh coat of paint on an old home.
"As Manchester neighbors, we reach out to meet the needs that exist," director Chris Kanta said. "This is a good solution to a great need that can make a tangible difference."
Whether it is physical challenges or a fixed income that prevents a homeowner from fixing their property, "Rebuilding Together" volunteers step up to meet the challenge. The "Rebuilding Together" committee will review all nominated properties and choose according to the number of volunteers available as well as the expertise of professional contractors who may be assisting in this year's project.
"Rebuilding Together" needs the support of the community in two waysboth financial support and willing hands to do the work.
"We can use volunteers to help us with many of our home repair and yard clean-up tasks scheduled for that day," Kanta said.
All volunteers must be at least 14 years old or accompanied by an adult.
Volunteer forms are available at the CRC. Homeowners who would like to be considered for this year's community outreach initiative should contact the CRC at 428-7722. Those who would like to make a financial donation to help with projects costs are encouraged to contact the CRC.
"Rebuilding Together" has taken place in Manchester for 16 years and has traditionally been supported by community businesses, churches, organizations and residents.
