A public forum and informational meeting on the county's wireless Internet access project is set for 7 p.m. March 26 at the Manchester High School auditorium, 20500 Dutch Drive.
Scheduled speakers include representatives from the Wireless Washtenaw team, 20/20 Communications and the Washtenaw County Intermediate School District.
The forum will include a question-and-answer session, and the system will be available for demonstration and use.
The forum is the first of several planned countywide as the system begins to move into its deployment phase.
"I am pleased that the county's Wireless Washtenaw team and 20/20 Communica-tions selected Manchester as the site for the first of several public forums to be held across the county in 2007," said Manchester resident Ray Berg of Wireless Washtenaw.
"This reflects the importance they place on getting high-speed Internet service to residents in the rural western part of the county."
A pilot program involving 30 Manchester-area residents and merchants over the past several weeks has been successful, Berg said, but engineers and technicians wanted to collect as much data as possible before scheduling the forum.
"This forum will be interesting, and will prepare future users for what they can expect with the service," Berg said.
The aim of the countywide program is to establish wireless access in rural areas underserved by traditional Internet service providers.
