In an effort to help children and families across Washtenaw County, Manchester residents Steve and Rebecca Harvey are seeking sponsorship in the Make A Wish Foundation of Michigan's Walk For Kids on March 29.

The 5K walk, which raises money for the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ronald McDonald House, C.S. Mott Children's and Women's Hospital and the Make a Wish Foundation, will take place in downtown Ann Arbor.
"I'm walking because I'm very blessed to have a health one-year-old baby girl. There are to many children that are not healthy," Harvey said. "I want to do something that will help those children and their families. I feel by raising funds and walking is one way that I can help this great cause."
Currently Harvey is the leader with individual donations amounting to $985. His wife Rebecca is in third place with $464. However, together the duo has already managed to raise $1,449.
"That is pretty impressive considering some of these other teams have 10 or more people registered," Harvey said. "We're trying to see how many donations we can get to hopefully help out the families who need it."
Harvey said most donations have come from family and friends.
"We're open to anyone that wants to help," Rebecca Harvey said.
Harvey said one of the team's larger donations recently came from the Manchester American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
"My mom and dad are active in the American Legion, so they've been helping solicit sponsorships," he said.
According to the Make a Wish Foundation, openings are still available for other teams to sign up for the walk.
"There is strength in numbers and together we can join forces to make a difference for our kids," the group states.
Interested persons can register their team online at the Web site, www.wishmich.org. Team members are requested to select a team name and captain.
Those who would like to contribute a sponsorship to "Team Harvey," can go to the Web site, click on the donate button in the top left corner and search for "Team Harvey." Sponsors will then be included on the Harvey's Walk For Kids web page.
"If anyone would like to help out but can not donate money, they can come and walk with us on the actual day of the event," Harvey said.
In addition to paying online, sponsors can contribute through cash or personal checks made out to Make a Wish Foundation of Michigan.
All donations will contribute to the fund-raiser's goal of $100,000 that helps fund cancer research, medical facilities, and special "wishes" for children suffering with cancer and other diseases.
"Since we had our baby girl, we realized that there are families out there who don't have healthy children and who need help and support," Harvey said. "I think this is a good cause that's worth giving our time for."
