Though it has been 32 years since local residents Jeff and Sheryl Feldkamp said 'I do,' their married life still sparkles with the romance and love they have worked hard to maintain.
Married on Valentine's Day 1976, the Feldkamp's decided Feb. 14 was their day to tie the knot both because it was a romantic holiday, and because it also fell on a Saturday that year.
"It was an unseasonably warm day that year," Sheryl Feldkamp said. "I think it was in the mid-60s or so.
"I get a lot of ribbing about our Valentine's Day anniversary. People say my husband can't forget our anniversary."
Feldkamp said often family friends playfully tease her husband, adding that because both their anniversary and Valentine's Day fall on the same day, he can combine one gift for both occasions.
The couple enjoys celebrating their winter anniversary, and since their 10th wedding anniversary, has spent many Valentine's Days on a cruise ship sailing across the Caribbean.
"Last year, we went for a week at the Island of St. Lucia," Feldkamp said. "This year, we're going to the Bahamas."
The couple also invites several friends to accompany them on their trip, and have traveled with groups of between 12 and 14, she said.
"Our 30th anniversary was totally awesome," Sheryl Feldkamp said. "We took our children and their spouses, and traveled on a Royal cruise ship to Belize, Grand Cayman and Cancun."
The couple attends Bethel United Church of Christ, but was married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Saline. Feldkamp said she has relatives all over the area.
"I married into a big family," she said. "It was interesting to me to find out who they were, how they were related, and trying to keep it all straight."
She has been a substitute teacher within the Saline School District for 12 years, and combines this with helping to take care of her new grandson.
