The village resident, whose name and address are being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, was arrested Jan. 31 by Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies.
Washtenaw County Prosecutor Brian Mackie said the woman was arraigned Feb. 2 and is lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail on $100,000 cash bond.
Each felony count carries a sentence of any number of years up to life in prison.
A preliminary exam is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in 14th District Court.
Cmdr. Dave Egeler, public information officer for the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, said the mother was arrested after the girl confided in an adult neighbor who contacted the sheriff's department, which initiated an investigation.
The two felony counts stem from two separate incidents that allegedly occurred in December.
Egeler said the mother is suspected of punishing her daughter by inserting dabs of toothpaste into her rectum, a technique she apparently had learned from an Internet acquaintance.
"The mother had learned of this method through Internet chats with a man in California who claimed he had used it on his daughters as punishment," Egeler said.
"Supposedly they met through a Christian Web site and began a relationship through that."
Egeler said his department has contacted California authorities regarding the man's conduct and they would initiate their own investigation.
Child Protective Services was notified following the arrest to remove the girl and her 15-year-old brother from the home.
The brother was not involved in the alleged assaults, and the girl sustained no physical injuries, Egeler said.
