A barrage of three-pointers sparked Napoleon to a 70-48 victory over the Flying Dutchmen in a Cascades Conference game.
Manchester (5-9, 3-6 Cascades) threw a variety of defensive (looks??) at the Pirates throughout the game, but were unable to slow their offense from behind the arc. For the game, Napoleon connected on nine three-pointers, which helped it bust the game open.
"Napoleon shot the lights out," Manchester coach Corey Fether said. "It didn't matter what defense we tried."
The loss spoiled another strong offensive performance from Josh Blades. The freshmen scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Manchester. Brandon Sklenar added eight points, while Jesse Forner scored five points and handed out six assists. Ryan Lenhart had five points and four blocked shots. Brandon Casey, Brent Schriber and Rob Carver each scored four points, with Carver grabbing four rebounds. D.J. Hone finished with two points for the Flying Dutchmen.
Manchester traveled to Vandercook Lake for a league game Tuesday after the newspaper's deadline.
The Dutchmen will face Addison in the front end of a boy-girl JV doubleheader Friday. The Manchester junior varsity boys' basketball team faces the Panthers at 5 p.m. Friday, while the junior varsity girls' basketball team faces Addison approximately a half hour after the conclusion of the boys' game.
The doubleheader was scheduled after a snowstorm postponed the varsity and JV girls' basketball game at Addison Feb. 1.
Both junior varsity games will take place at Manchester Middle School. The Cascades Conference wrestling meet is being held Friday at Manchester High School.
The Dutchmen recorded a 42-31 victory over Addison in the teams' first meeting Jan. 8.
Dutchmen vs. Washtenaw Christian
Controlling the play at both ends of the floor, the Manchester junior varsity boys' basketball team stormed to a 63-33 victory over the Washtenaw Christian Academy Wildcats in a non-conference game Jan. 29.
Josh Blades finished with 17 points and five rebounds to lead the Flying Dutchmen. Rob Carver added 10 points and six rebounds, while Brandon Casey threw in seven points. Dakota LaDouceur had six points and Ryan Lenhart and Lukas Weber added four points apiece.
Brent Schriber scored four points and recorded four steals, while D.J Hone had four points and four rebounds. Jesse Forner had three points and five assists and Brandon Sklenar scored two points and grabbed five rebounds. Matt Johnson finished with two points for Manchester.
