The Manchester varsity volleyball team continued its recent hot streak Monday with a 25-13, 28-26, 25-17 victory over Washtenaw Christian Academy in a non-conference match.

Manchester (11-13-2, 2-1 Cascades) has won five of its last seven matches.

After controlling the first game, the Flying Dutchmen were forced to extra points by a late Washtenaw rally.

"We were able to do enough to survive," Manchester coach Mike Mininger said. "That game could've gone either way. Washtenaw is a young team and there's no 'quit' in them."

Julie Fielder had 13 kills on the night to lead the Dutch. Stacy Volk added six kills, while Laura Coltre made 11 digs.

Allyson Way had six service aces and set up 26 assists. Way was a perfect 47-for-47 setting in the match.

Crystal Poertner had six digs and Amanda Mutchler recorded two solo blocks for Manchester.

The Dutch return to Cascades Conference play tonight when they travel to Addison.

"That will be an important match," Mininger said. "Addison is an experienced team, and we'll have to play well to keep up with them."

Williamston Invitational

Manchester dropped its first two matches, but recovered to earn a split in the Williamston Invitational Jan. 27.

The Flying Dutch opened with a 21-18, 22-20 loss to Corunna, followed by a 21-17, 21-17 loss to Midland-Dow. Manchester fought back with a 21-13, 21-15 victory over Ovid-Elsie and closed the day with a 22-20, 22-21 victory over Morrice.

Despite rebounding with two wins, the Dutch did not make it out of pool play. Manchester and Corunna each finished 2-2, with Corunna holding the tiebreaker.

"The tournament was a good day and I was pleased with our overall performance," Mininger said. "We're coming around and starting to do the little things."

Julie Fielder finished with 17 kills and 20 digs on the day to lead Manchester, while Amanda Mutchler also had 17 kills. Amanda Way set up 47 assists and Shanel Mullins made 15 digs and served eight aces for the Dutch.

Dutch vs. Grass Lake

Julie Fielder and Amanda Way sparked Manchester to a 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 victory over Grass Lake in a Cascades Conference match Jan. 25.

Fielder had 10 kills to lead the Dutch attack, while Way set up 20 assists.

Hannah Caszatt and Amanda Mutchler both added four kills. Laura Coltre finished with seven digs for Manchester.
