The Flying Dutchmen (2-8, 1-4 Cascade Conference) raced out to a 22-12 first quarter lead against the Panthers.

At halftime, Manchester continued leading 36-27.

Senior guard Greg Schaible (6-foot-1) led the Dutch, scoring 20 points in the first half, including four three-pointers. For the game, Schaible paced Manchester with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Also playing a key role in the Flying Dutchmen's first half offensive explosion was senior guard Nick Ball (5-10), who scored nine of his 11 points in the second quarter.

Entering the fourth quarter, Manchester led 47-40.

In the fourth frame, the Dutch held back a late rally by Addison outscoring the Panthers 17-15 for the night's final margin.

"We relied a little more on our defense this game," said Manchester coach Bryan Barnard. "I was proud that we were able to hold onto the win. We fought hard and made tough shots. It's always difficult to win on the road. It's a good win for us."

Sophomore guard Randy Kleinschmidt scored 10 points for the Dutch, while junior forward Sam Brown (6-2) had six points and a team-high 11 rebounds and senior guard Zach Benedict six points.

"Sam (Brown) did a nice job rebounding for us," Barnard said. "He played with intensity and made a lot of hustle plays in the fourth quarter."

Senior center Jake LaCross (6-3) finished with three points, while sophomore guard Zack Ysassi (6-0) had three points and a team-high eight assists for Manchester.

On Jan. 16, the host Flying Dutchmen defeated Brooklyn Columbia Central 86-53.

Prior to the game against the Golden Eagles, Manchester had been having difficulty scoring. Against Columbia Central, the Dutch were hitting on all cylinders.

"Everybody shot tremendous," Barnard said. "It was contagious. Our confidence was high. Everybody expected their shots to go in."

In the first quarter, Manchester ran out to a commanding 28-9 lead, hitting 11-of-15 shots from the field.

At the break, the Dutch increased their advantage to 55-25.

"The 55 first half points were more than we had scored in one game all season," Barnard said.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Manchester continued leading 68-42.

In the fourth stanza, the Flying Dutchmen closed out the victory, outscoring Columbia Central 18-11 for the ending tally.

For the night, Manchester was 25-of-29 from the free throw line for 89 percent. The Dutch also shot a season-high nine three-pointers.

"It was a fun game," Barnard said. "I thought we played with a lot of energy and hustle. Everybody contributed."

Schaible led the offensive attack for Manchester with 18 points, including two triples.

Benedict added 12 points, including two from beyond the arc, while Kleinschmidt had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

"That was our first double-double of the year," Barnard said. "Randy played real well. He did a great job rebounding. He also scored well around the basket."

LaCross ended up with eight points, while senior post player Kevin Fielder (6-3) had seven points and Ysassi seven points and seven assists.

Junior guard Justin Welton (5-11), senior guard David Ball (5-8) and senior guard Andrew Tindall (5-8) each chipped in six points, while Nick Ball had three points and Brown two points.

The Dutch, who currently are on a two-game win streak, next host East Jackson 7 p.m. Friday.

On Tuesday, Manchester travels to Michigan Center for a contest at 7 p.m.

On Feb. 2, the Flying Dutchmen visit Grass Lake for a game at 7 p.m.
