NATHAN ALBER

Freedom Township

Nathan A. "Al" Alber, 76, of Freedom Township died Jan. 21, 2007. He was born March 19, 1930, in Freedom Township the son of Nathan O. and Emma K. (Schlicht) Alber.

He married Anna I. Way Aug. 23, 1952, and she survives.

Also surviving are his two children, Pamela S. Hughes and Michael A. Alber, as well as six grandchildren, Daniel, Andrea, Michelle, Emily, Alisha and Philip.

Mr. Alber was a lifelong member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ and a life member of the National Riffle Association.

He lived and worked until retirement in 1992 on the family farm in Freedom Township. Mr. Alber also owned and operated Alber Orchard and Cider Mill –– first with his parents, and then with his wife and children.

Mr. Alber served on the board of directors at Union Savings Bank and the Freedom Township Board of Review.

After retiring, Mr. Alber worked as a part-time hourly employee at Pioneer HI-BRED Inc.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held May 12. Private interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to "Dutchmen firefighters."

Arrangements were entrusted to Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel, in Manchester.

ANNE MARIE REED

Clarklake

Anne Marie (Gulliver) Reed, 35, of Clarklake died Jan. 16, 2007, at W.A. Foote Memorial Hospital. She was born July 2, 1971, in Jackson the daughter of Ted and Betty (Steward) Gulliver.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Reed is survived by her sister, Katie (Rob) Clark of Clarklake; maternal grandmother, Marion Steward of Florida; paternal grandparents, Chuck and Nina Gulliver of Eaton Rapids; and aunts and uncles, Marie Dalton of Jackson, Gary (Debbie) Gulliver of Haslett, Christine (Keith) Pople of Tennesee and Charna (Bob) Welch of Eaton Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Henry Ford Steward.

Ms. Reed was a member of DisAbility Connections and Passages, both in Jackson; the Michigan Center Bible Church; and a former member of Dancing Wheels in Hampton, Va.

Ms. Reed graduated from Columbia Central High School, Adrian College and attended Grand Valley State University. She was a former teacher at Columbia Central High School.

Ms. Reed liked being with friends and family, teaching, participating in church activities, sailing, campfires, singing, and attending and performing in musical theater. She enjoyed Clarklake walks and being with her cat.

Ms. Reed will be remembered by her friends and family, as well as those she would meet, by her warm and bright smile. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A healing farewell service for her was held Saturday at the Michigan Center Bible Church. The Revs. John Tovey and Cindy Landrum officiated.
