Kiwanis club awards funds
More than $15,400 awarded to 11 local organizations

Every year the Manchester Kiwanis Club awards thousands of dollars to local schools and nonprofit organizations, using the proceeds from its annual "Crazy Ca$h Night."

The organizations present their funding requests to the club, which decides which projects to fund and at what level.
This year, 11 recipients will receive more than $15,400 in funding for a variety of needs that will benefit a wide range of community members.
The Barn Raisers were given the largest sum of $4,000, which will go toward the $70,000 in matching funds needed to qualify for a grant for their $125,000 project.
Manchester school bands will use $3,350 for a gong and stand, a drum set for the jazz program and amplifiers.
Manchester Early Childhood Education will receive $2,270 for a lamination and mounting system.
The Manchester Fair Board will receive $2,000 for a Blue Ribbon Walkway computer program.
Early Childhood Special Education will get $1,163 for swings, playground equipment and seat belts.
American Legion Post 117 will receive $1,000 for a public address system. Kiwanis will benefit from this system for its raffle.
The Klager Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association will receive $505 for a set of "Everyday Math" parent resource guides that will be stored at the library.
The Manchester Community Resource Center was awarded $400 for a Hewlett-Packard all-in-one printer.
Manchester Early Speech Intervention will receive $270 for speech program parent guides for "It Takes Two to Talk."
The club will purchase new dictionaries for all Klager third-graders for $250.
With $200, the Manchester Middle School Parent-Teacher Association will purchase a set of parent resource guides.
Now in its eight year, the event has provided approximately $115,000 to community organizations, with priority going to projects benefiting children ages 3 through 18.
Kiwanis Crazy Ca$h Night takes place 6 p.m. March 3 at the American Legion Hall in Manchester. It features dinner catered by Dan's River Grill, 50/50 drawings, raffles and auctions.
Tickets are $100 for a chance to win up to $5,000 in cash, plus many other prizes, and available at The Coffee Mill and Edward Jones Investments.
Tickets purchased before Feb. 14 are eligible for an early-bird prize of $100 cash.
