In a unanimous vote, the commission elected to retain Dave Faust as its chairman and Henry Jordan as vice chairman for the next year.
The only change involves the planning commission secretary. Tom Wharm was elected to the position, succeeding former secretary Deb Corwin. All three terms will end in January 2009.
Faust and Jordan have held their respective positions since Oct. 8, 2007. Faust took over as full-time chairman following the resignation of former interim chairman John Porter. The vice chairman's spot was unfilled for the previous five months until Jordan was elected to the position in October 2007.
Along with serving as Planning Commission chairman, Faust serves on the Bridgewater Township Board of Trustees. He is also the board's representative on the Planning Commission.
Faust is the third chairman to serve the Bridgewater Planning Commission in eight months. Former chairman Mike Bisco was dismissed from the position by the township board during a meeting May 3, 2007. Eleven days later, Porter volunteered to serve as interim chairman for two months, but ended up holding the position until September as no other nominations or volunteers came forward. Porter stepped down from the Planning Commission on Sept. 11, 2007.
One of Faust's first moves when he took over as chairman was to develop sub-committees within the commission. The committees were designed to spread out the myriad duties of the commission to prevent the chairman, vice chairman and commissioners from being saddled with the entire workload.
Jordan, along with fellow commissioner Chris Brown, joined the Bridgewater Township Planning Commission in July. He served as a commissioner until being nominated and elected as the vice chairman. Former vice chairman Glenn Burkhardt resigned from the Planning Commission shortly after Bisco was dismissed, and the positions remained vacant until Jordan took over.
Jordan grew up in Bridgewater Township and works as a mortgage broker for Premier Mortgage Funding, Inc. in Ypsilanti.
Wharm was nominated by Corwin to take over as secretary. He joined the Planning Commission Oct. 8, 2007 following Porter's resignation and the promotions of Faust and Jordan. Wharm has lived in Bridgewater Township for 20 years and works as a systems engineer for Visteon. For the previous 10 years, Wharm served as a member of Bridgewater Township's Road Commission.
