LESTER McCALLA

Manchester

Lester A. McCalla, 82, of Manchester died Jan. 15, 2007, after an extended illness. He was born July 20, 1924, in Ann Arbor, to Ruth (Spaulding) and Frank McCalla.

Mr. McCalla was a lifelong farmer, first in Pittsfield Township and then in Manchester. He was a member of the Michigan Pork Producers, the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau and the Manchester Fair Board.

He was survived by his children, Gordon (Michelle) McCalla and Mary Ann (Joe) Dettling of Manchester, and Karen McCalla of Oxnard, Calif.; two grandsons, Kevin (Jennifer) Dettling of Pinckney and Keith (Sarah) Dettling of Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Victoria Dettling of Jackson; a brother, Glen (Doris) McCalla of Ann Arbor; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell McCalla; and two sisters, Virginia Wiedmayer and Gertrude McCalla.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at the Sharon United Methodist Church, where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Carter Garrigues-Cortelyou will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family for future designation. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel in Manchester, where the family received friends Wednesday.

Those who wish may sign Mr. McCalla's guestbook at www.BorekJennings.com.
