Flying Dutchmen win four straight games on court

Manchester's JV boys' basketball team defeated host Vandercook Lake 50-45 last Friday. With the win, the Flying Dutchmen have won four straight games.

"We played an excellent second quarter and built and 11-point halftime lead," said Manchester coach Corey Fether.
Trevor Hanewald led the Flying Dutchmen (4-2) with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also added four steals.
Sam Hatt chipped in 10 points, while Beau Kingsbury had seven points, and Josh Miller six points and five assists. Corwin Every grabbed six points for Manchester.
Logan Ross finished with five points, six rebounds and four steals, while Clayton Every had two points for the Dutch.
Dutch vs. Adrian Madison
On Dec. 27, Manchester defeated Adrian Madison 53-41.
"We outscored Madison 16-4 in the third quarter and that was the difference in the ballgame," Fether said.
Ross paced the Dutch with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Clayton Every had 15 points and eight boards, while Kingsbury had 10 points and six rebounds. Corwin Every had seven points and seven rebounds.
Miller added three points, while Hatt had two points for Manchester.
Dutch vs. Grass Lake
On Dec. 15, the host Flying Dutchmen defeated Grass Lake 56-48.
"We did a good job of handling Grass Lake's pressure and played good defense in the second and third quarters," Fether said.
Hanewald led Manchester with 17 points and six rebounds.
Miller ended up with 12 points and five assists, while Ross had six points and 13 rebounds. Kingsbury had six points and five assists, while Jeff Horodeczny had six points for the Dutch.
Clayton Every had five points and Corwin Every had four points.
Dutch vs. Milan
On Dec. 12, Manchester beat Milan 49-39.
"We played much more aggressive this game, more like the second half of the Clinton game (58-57 overtime loss)," Fether said.
Ross sparked the Flying Dutchmen with 14 points and six rebounds.
Hanewald recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Kingsbury had eight points, Brian Fargher five points and five rebounds, and Miller five points and four boards.
Corwin Every and Hatt each added two points, while Travis Tubbs had one point for Manchester.
Dutch vs. Michigan Center
On Dec. 8, the Flying Dutchmen lost to visiting Michigan Center 44-36.
"Our defense and rebounding were soft in the first and fourth quarters," Fether said. "Michigan Center was very physical and took advantage of our lack of aggressiveness."
Kingsbury led Manchester with nine points.
Corwin Every had six points, while Ross had six points and six rebounds. Hanewald had six points and nine boards.
Miller finished with two points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Dutch vs. Clinton
To open its season, the Flying Dutchmen lost to host Clinton 58-57 in overtime Dec. 5.
"We played a horrible second quarter and were down by 13 at halftime," Fether said. "We fought back in the second half to tie it at the end of regulation. We ran out of gas in overtime."
Hanewald led Manchester with a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Ross added a double-double of 14 points and 13 boards, while Kingsbury had 14 points and Corwin Every seven points.
Hatt finished with five points, while Miller had seven assists and four rebounds. Horodeczny had one point for the Dutch.
Manchester next hosts Napoleon 5:30 p.m. Friday.
On Tuesday, the Flying Dutchmen host Brooklyn Columbia Central at 5:30 p.m.
On Jan. 19, Manchester travels to Addison for a game at 5:30 p.m.
