Upcoming events for the month of January and February include the Community Resource Center's banquet Jan. 19, the Manchester Men's Club ice skating party Jan. 27 and the annual chili cook-off the third weekend in February.
The chamber's Web site includes the dates and times for the events, as well as a listing of special events throughout the year.
The chamber also announced its nominee for the CRC's Volunteer-of-the-Year award, discussed upcoming projects and introduced two newcomers to the membership.
Kari Newman was named the chamber's nominee for the volunteer award, which will be presented Jan. 19. Chris Kanta, director of the CRC, said 16 people have been nominated for the honor. She said silent auction items are being sought to raise funds to benefit the center as part of the banquet.
Newman, who is also helping to raise funds for a new playscape at Carr Park, said her group is within $10,000 of meeting its goal to construct the playground.
"I want to close the gap to finish it off," she said.
Also during the meeting, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Anuszkiewicz announced that Deputy Jeff Saren of Clinton has joined the team of deputies who will patrol Manchester and Bridgewater Township.
The deputies –– Joe Ballard, Cindy Flint, Marcus Kirby, Ed Kovach and Saren –– work shifts that provide 24-hour coverage.
Saren said he is looking forward to serving the community, where he will be stationed for a year. His last assignment was in Ypsilanti Township.
Also during the meeting, Dana Andrews spoke about his new business, Andrews Family Chiropractic, which he plans to open in February, and Ray Berg announced that Wireless Washtenaw will hold a public forum at the end of January.
The chamber named new officers. Chris Fegan is president; Newman, vice president; Chris Kanta, secretary; and Kathy Roberts, treasurer. Members of the board include Therese Bossory, Carol Britten, Sharon Curtis, Jody Flowers, Patty Keezer, Ron Milkey, Karl Racenis and Pat Vailliencourt.
